Headquarters and Headquarters Battery, 1st Battalion, 77th Field Artillery, reorganized and redesignated 17 September 1990 as Battery A, 77th Field Artillery, and remained assigned to the 194th Armored Brigade (remainder of battalion concurrently inactivated).  The battery inactivated 29 June 1995 at Fort Knox, Kentucky, and relieved from assignment to the 194th Armored Brigade.  

After 1 year inactive, Battery A, 77th Field Artillery was redesignated 16 June 1996 as Headquarters and Headquarters Battery, 1st Battalion, 77th Field Artillery, and activated at Fort Sill, Oklahoma (organic elements concurrently activated as an MLRS battalion).

In 2001 1st Battaion, 77th Field Artillery deployed an MLRS Battery to Kuwait in support of Intrinsic Action and later provided Soldiers to Augment the 75th Field Artillery Brigade Headquarters during two deployments to Operation Iraqi Freedom that included the Sensitive Site Exploitation Task Force and the Force Field Artillery Headquarters for the 1st Cavalry Division.

In 2005 the battalion task organized and trained to perform missions supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom 05-07, arriving at Camp Arifjan, Kuwait in September and October.

One year later, the unit was assigned 16 March 2008 to the 172d Infantry Brigade and activated in Schweinfurt, Germany.
