It seems that the 77th Artillery Association is for those of you that served during the Vietnam War. Are those of us that served in the 77th at other times, and not in the ARA but in the FA, able to join?

Hello once more! I read the messages quite often as well as check the rosters. Still looking for all of the member of the FO Team I was a part of during my tour. I spent many months with A 2/5 CAV along with "Turtle" (Torinese), Sgt. Anthony "Tony" Riska, David Morgan, and Jim Henderson. I have been able to contact all but Jim Henderson. If anyone know's his whereabouts, please let him know I'm looking for him. We have had some great reunions he has missed out on. I'm sure he has a lot to share from those days ---- long ago.

Korea, Camp Pelham. The Quonset huts still had uneven plywood floors when I first got there. Until the DivArty IG tripped in our barracks. That's how the barracks and HQ building got the cement floors. The outfit was apparently formed in Australia and when I was at Pelham, the Battalion song was Waltzing Matilda. When guys departed, a 105 was brought in from A Battery, the departing soldier pulled the lanyard--a real thrill for us Chair-Borne types. At the sound of the cannon, Waltzing Matilda would play on the Battalion loud speakers. All the troops would line the bridge across the creek in honor of the lucky guy going home. It was peacetime, though the Berlin Crisis and obviously itchy fingers across the DMZ never lets us get fully relaxed--when sober. Sobriety for some was a little hard to come by as Scotch was two-bits and Vodka was a dime. Fortunately, we never had an alert during two-for-one night. I am a much better man than I would have been if not for that Korean experience with the 77th Artillery... Bud

The 4th Division was just starting to make ready for their deployment to Vietnam in late 1965. I was one of many GI's drafted and sent to Ft. Lewis Washington, right out of the induction center -- to take basic training with the outfit that they were going to be shipped out with. After Basic, I was transfered to 4th Division Artillery, "head and head battery." Of the time that I spent with the 77th are moments among my proudest. I know the 77th was in Vietnam the same time as I was, and I worried about the great guys that I took basic with. I still do.

I was 21 when I got to Vietnam and we had one E-6 and no higher then that. We both served as chief of firing Btry. The Btry commander told me not to worry about being the 1st Sgt. I went on sick call in Oct. 68 to never to return. I ended up in a hospital for over a year. I retired in Jan. 1982. I was with some of the crazies bastards that I have ever met. They were the best. I model my life after them. I remember them all.

Just checked out the lineage and honors for the 2/77th FAR. There is a little error in it. The weapons system that we had from '86 to inactivation in '91 was 8-inch (M110A2, 203mm, SP). We were part of the 17th FA Bde, VII Corps Artillery, with a GSR mission under the GDP in effect at the time. In additon to providing general support fires for VII Corps, we reinforced the 1st Armored Division Artillery we had an on-order, out-of-sector mission to support the 3rd German Corps. We were in the planning stages of converting to MLRS and moving to Neu Ulm in late 1990 when we received our inactivation orders. During Operation Desert Storm, more than 250 soldiers (officers and enlisted) from 2/77th FAR served with just about all the artillery battalions and brigades in GEN Franks' VII Corps, including 210th FA Bde, 1st and 3rd ID Artillery, 1st and 3d AD Artillery, 2d ACR's howitzer batteries, and the 42d FA Bde. I deployed to SWA as the DFSCOORD for 3rd Armored Division and returned to the battalion in Augsburg prior to the inactivation ceremony. LTC Richard Durden was the last commander, from '89 until he brought the colors home to CONUS in '91.

The Cav is poised to enter Najaf,Iraq. That will probably be as fierce a fight as Hue or Manila. Let us all pray for the troopers and Marines who have been assigned this task. Most of the cannons were left at home and the " Gun bunnies " ( used lovingly not disparigingly ) convertad to riflemen.

Seventeen graduates of Fort Sill OCS Class 22-66 helped form the 6/77th at Fort Irwin in October 1966. On May 2, 1967, the 6/77th sailed for Vietnam aboard the USS Gordon. I was assigned as Assistant Battalion Fire Direction Officer under Captain Levasseur, and I was the first officer reassigned to another unit as the 25th Division tried to balance incoming troops with veterans. I have been fascinated to read to read the journal of the 77FA activities in WWII since my grandfather, Sgt. Jim Collins, was a truck driver in this outfit during that time. I grew up hearing many stories of what I believe were the best years of his life. As he and my grandmother, Bess, organized several reunions of buddies from his unit I was able to meet these war heroes and develop a deep respect for what they and all other veterans have paid for my freedom. Thank you for sharing these memories.

I have been trying to find guys that I was stationed with when I was injured. I got hurt but they say it was not active duty, if I find some one that remembers the incident, I may win my case with the VA.  I was in Fort Sill when this happened. Thank you.

I was the first replacement officer assigned to the battalion in nam after they arrived from Fort Irwin. My first assignment was XO of B Battery under Capt Lavasser ( that is most likely miss spelled) In the time I had the honor of comanding all five of the batteries concluding with Service battery durring the move to the Delta. As my tour came to a close I served as an assistant S3 with the call sign on Vindicator 3 Hotel. The only contact I have ever had was anybody from the unit after we came home was with Maj Paul Walters but I lost track of him many years ago. I have never partisipated in any Vet. organizations and looked at this web page for some time before entering any data......not sure why. I have no idea what I expect but it seemed to be the thing to do. Vindicator3H

I am working with Mr Paul Hartranft on behalf of Floyd Brown [Tinker], he was assigned to us 1967 to Jan 1968 as a F/O. I personally did not know him. Tinker is just coming out of his shell and if anyone has any orders, etc showing him assigned to the 25th, we'd appreciate it. Either respond to me or Paul (paulh@ptd.net) It may be 28 years late, but I'd sure like to thank all of you guys for the 105's you dropped in to save our grunt butts on many occasions. We are going to try to get Tinker to register on your site, but he also wants to be registered on our site, we'd love to have him, but we need verification he was assigned to us. Thanks again from an old grunt. Bob Coughlin Co D 3/22 25th Inf Div 67-68

Well, the past weekend was brutal on the website. We lost a lot of data again, and I'm thinking of shopping for another server company. I'm working every spare minute to restore as much as possible as quickly as possible. With our reunion announcement in both the American Legion and VFW magazines this month, the timing of the problems with our website is truly unfortunate.
