Re the entry by Jeff Dunwoody, 19 Aug 2003. I have sent him a 77th FA crest as well as a 77th FA lapel pin for his grandfather's memorial. In return he sent me one of the California Fire Fighter's patches he previoulsy worn when engaged in fighting the many foret fires that occur in his region of the country. He and those like him are part of the many unsung heroes of this country. Jeff - be careful out there!

How many of you have read Doc's message and want to do something. I will gladly donate some money to help get things right. If interested, contact me and others you know, and lets make things happen. I met Doc in the 80's, and know what he meant to the men he served with in Vietnam from hearing some of them talk about him at a reunion in St. Louis. I remember walking in a Veteran's Day Parade as part of the reunion activities. Since that time he and his wife have continued to find new names of people that have served in the 77th FA Regiment. A great undertaking. Now is our time to help. I hope to hear from you, and hopefully we can meet again at a reunion.

COMBAT VETS AND ACTIVES -- I'm putting a book together called "BROTHERHOOD". Would you like to express your admiration for, or say "thank you" to, a person or group you served beside? You have a chance to tell your stories that have stayed in your hearts and memories long after the fighting---stories that are usually overlooked in books about combat. Please write or call: (Mrs.) Debbie McCabe, 3710 Mesa Ridge Rd., Houston, TX 77043, 713/895-0542.

My grandfather, James Louis Buffer, was in the 77th during WWII. He passed away in 1989. I am building a frame in which I am placing his medals and other military items. I would like to put in the units crest. I have a picture of him wearing his class A uniform with two pin back crests on his lapels. Does anyone know where I might be able to get one of those pins? It would mean a great deal to myself and my family. Thank you, Jeff- A26INVADER@aol.com

I believe our battalion was special because we formed up, trained, and moved to Nam as a unit. Many of us Lts. were contemporaries (classmates) and we were closer than people just thrown together. I was AXO (assistant executive officer) of Charlie battery and FDO (fire direction officer). Mike Davis said I have a good memory but I can be bribed to forget embarrassing stories. hah.

Sorry about the web page, Doc, but I know that you will get it done. I know it will be fun at the reunion, and I remember the experience Ruth and I had at the St. Louis, MO reunion. I was just looking at the pictures taken when we paraded on Veterans Day that year.
Been retired from the US Armysince January 31 1990, and still work as a school bus driver with the Fort Knox Community Schools. Involved in several veteran organizations, and am serving as President of The Retired Sergeants Major and Chiefs Association.
I'll keep in touch and hope to get toyour neck of the woods soon.
